POLSON — More than 150 of the state’s best swimmers gathered to compete during the Class A-B State Swim Championship at the Mission Valley Aquatic and Fitness Center on Saturday.

The MVAFC has been the host for numerous swim events in the past, but Saturday’s championship was the first of its kind on the state prep level. Another first for the pool facility this season: the inaugural Polson High School swim team called the facility home. The team consisted of seniors Sean Stewart and Mason Sloan, junior Trae Wyman, sophomores Aspen McKee and Hope Morrison, and freshmen Sami Dolberry, Isabelle Seeley and Shanoah Losleben.

Sloan entered state competition on Saturday and was seeded number one in both the boys 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke. In the 200-freestyle, Sloan took home the state title with a time of 1:52.97, breaking his personal record of 1:57.85 set earlier this season.

Sloan became dual-event state champion, winning the 100 breaststroke with his personal best time of 1:05.18.

“This feels good,” said Sloan after stepping off the winner’s podium for the second time. Sloan also said it was an honor to be the school’s first swim state champion.

Wyman also placed in dual-events, finishing fifth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:08.51 and sixth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.99 seconds.

Also competing in the state meet were Morrison and Seeley in the 100-yard butterfly and 50-yard freestyle along with Mckee in both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle.
