Editor,

Wednesday, March 17 started out a bright, beautiful day. I think maybe the third time since St. Patty’s Day parades started that it was nice in Ronan. Then at the end of the parade loomed a dark and disgusting cloud. The derogatory float that contained the F word was not right.

We at the city do not put on the parades in town, they are put on by local civic organizations and groups. We do a parade permit so we can help clear the street and help with the safety aspects. We have never had a problem of this sort before and the organizers weren’t sure what to do. We will be bringing this up at the next council meeting to come up with solutions and tools so that these organizations will have answers to these situations.

It is my opinion that inserting the U.S. flag in the middle of the F word is just as disgraceful as burning the flag. In my conversations, I assume most of the organizational flags on the float were probably ordered on the internet and were not endorsed by any local organizations. To those of you who couldn’t get ahold of me Thursday mid to late afternoon, my phone went dead and the charger was at home because I’ve never had to carry it with me.

P.S. please get your COVID-19 vaccine shot. I got mine yesterday. If not for yourself, get it for your friends, family and neighbors. Common sense tells us that’s how we got rid of polio and other diseases.
