Track and Field

Polson Pirates and Lady Pirates

Jarrett Wilson finished third in the 100 meters with a time of 11.54 seconds. Lucas Targerson placed fourth in the long jump during the Tuesday, May 4, Western A-B-C Top Ten Meet hosted at the Bronc Athletic Complex in Hamilton.

Charlo Vikings and Lady VikingsC

Charlo High School senior Carlee Fryberger put her name in the history books by breaking the school record for the girls 100 meters with a time of 12.73 seconds during the Western A-B-C Top Ten held in Hamilton on Tuesday, May 4. Fryberger finished second in the race but went on to place first in the 100-meter hurdles and second in the 300-meter hurdles.

Ronan Chiefs and Maidens

During the Tuesday, May 4, Western A-B-C Top Ten in Hamilton, Girma Detwiler won the triple jump with a leap of 44 feet and two inches for the Ronan Chiefs. Also for the Chiefs, Michael Irvine placed second in the 1600 and Brant Heiner finished third in the 3200.

Competing in the Columbia Falls High School Invite held at the Nicosia Track Complex in Columbia Falls on Saturday, the Ronan Chiefs and Maidens posted 12 top-five finishes.

For the Chiefs, Detwiler, with a jump of 42 feet 1.5 inches, placed first in the triple jump. Irvine finished first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:11.04 minutes. Heiner, with a time of 10:20.45, placed first in the 3200. Caleb Cheff placed third in the long jump, and in the 200 meters, Keyan Pretty On Top finished fourth followed by Jordan Gatch in fifth place.

The Maidens relay team (Leina Ulutoa, Jase Frost, Lindsey Brooks, Rylie Lindquist) finished third in the 4x100 relay with a time of 54.73 seconds. Also for the Maidens, Leina Ulutoa, with a leap of 32 feet and 3.75 inches, won the triple jump. Olivia Heiner finished third in the 3200. Jase Frost placed fifth in the long jump. Rylie Lindquist finished second, and Jaylea Lunceford placed third in the shot put.

Mission Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs

Sydney Brander had a banner day for the Mission Lady Bulldogs during the Saturday KLH Memorial Track Meet held in Missoula. Brander won the long jump (16-02.00), triple jump (34-11.50), high jump (4-10.00) and finished fifth in the 100 meters. For the Bulldogs, Andrew Rush finished third in the 1600.

Arlee Warriors and Scarlets

During the Saturday KLH Memorial Track Meet in Missoula, Arlee Warrior Sage Nicolai placed fourth in the 800 meters and fifth in the 400 meters. Adalyn Jacobson placed fourth in the 200 meters. Harli Kinney finished fifth in the pole vault.

 

Tennis

The Polson Pirates and Lady Pirates tennis teams swept the Ronan Chiefs and Maidens on their own home court on Thursday. The Lady Pirates came away with a 6-1 victory over the Maidens, while the Pirates defeated the Chiefs 5-2.

Lady Pirate Sarah Kinzle defeated Maiden Courtney Bourdon 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). Liz Tolley defeated Ronan’s Lainey Racine 6-4, 6-0. Katelyn Smith won her match over Maiden Lainey Racine in three sets 4-6, 6-2, 10-3. 

For the Maidens, Skyler Shima defeated Sierra Lundeen 6-1, 6-3.

Lady Pirates’ doubles team of Ara Mercer and Qia Harlan won 6-3, 6-3 over Alyssa Pretty On Top and Aaliyah Decker. Clara Todd and Taylor Collinge defeated Ronan’s double team of Madison Perry and Kaileen Howard 6-1, 6-0.

For the Pirates, Chris Lake defeated Caden Bourdon 7-6(8-6), 7-5. Carson Hupka defeated Reni Stelheim 6-1, 6-3. Dillon Pretty On Top defeated Colter Wilson in two sets 6-2 6-3 for Ronan’s lone singles win.

The Pirate doubles team of Torrin Ellis and Trent Wilson defeated Connor Cornwell and Beau Decker 6-1, 6-3. Also for the Pirates, the doubles team of Tate Barentsen and Noah Trosper won in two sets 7-5, 6-2 over Laurenz Alvarez and Vincente Ortega.

 

Softball

Mission-Arlee-Charlo (MAC)

Mission-Arlee-Charlo grabbed another win on the season by blanking the hosting Missoula Loyola Breakers 13-0 late Thursday afternoon. In the circle for MAC, Kooper Page held the Breakers to five hits while striking out nine in five innings. Jerny Crawford and Izabel Evans led MAC at the plate, each having four RBIs and a home run.

Polson Lady Pirates

On Tuesday, May 4, the Class AA Glacier Wolfpack handed the visiting Class A Polson Lady Pirates their first loss of the season. The 8-7 loss moves the Lady Pirates to an overall record of 11-1-1 on the season.

Mckenna Hanson led the Lady Pirate batters going 3-for-4 at the plate with a grand slam home run in the seventh inning and four RBIs. Polson pitcher Katelynne Druyvestein allowed eight runs on six hits, striking out five and walking five.

Hosting the Class AA Flathead Bravettes on Thursday, the Lady Pirates bounced back from the loss earlier in the week with a 10-0 non-conference shut-out win. Druyvestein picked up the win allowing one hit, a walk and striking out eight. Lexie Orien paced Polson at the plate going 3-for-4, three RBIs, and a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning. Also for the Lady Pirates, Hanson, Jaevin Bad Bear and Josie Caye each had two RBIs on the day.

On Saturday, the Lady Pirates closed out the week with a 16-0 road win over the Browning Lady Indians. Pitcher Turquoise Pierre grabbed the win allowing two hits and striking out six. Pierre and Druyvestein each had game-leading three RBIs apiece.
