MAC finishes second in Western B/C softball divisional

FLORENCE — The Mission-Arlee-Charlo Lady Bulldogs softball team secured a second place divisional finish and a bracket spot in the upcoming State B/C tournament with key wins last weekend.

The Lady Bulldogs went 3-2 on the week with a 16-0 shutout win over Anaconda and a 20-1 win over Ennis. On Thursday, MAC opened tourney action with the 16-0 win over the Anaconda Lady Copperheads.

Liev Smith picked up the win for MAC holding Anaconda to zero runs on eight hits. At the plate, Jerny Crawford went 4-for-4 with three doubles and four RBIs. Izzy Evans hit a home run and booked three RBIs.

In Friday’s bracket action, MAC advanced into the semifinals with a 20-1 win over the Ennis Lady Mustangs. Jerny Crawford, once again, led MAC at the plate going 5-for-5 with two home runs, a double and two RBIs. Also hitting home runs for MAC were Hayleigh Smith, Rheid Crawford, Bennan Anderson and Kate Young. MAC pitcher Liev Smith allowed one run on two hits, striking out four and walking one. 

In the semifinal game against the Florence Lady Falcons, MAC came up short in a close 5-4 loss.

Kate Young had a home run as MAC batters racked up 12 hits on the day.

Playing in a loser-out game on Saturday morning, MAC slipped past the Manhattan Lady Tigers 5-6. Liev Smith picked up the win in six innings, allowing six runs on 10 hits, walking one and striking out five. Rheid Crawford led MAC with a home run and three RBIs. Evans had two RBIs.

In the championship game, MAC claimed runner-up hardware in a 9-8 extra-inning loss to Florence. MAC batters had 14 hits in the game led by Hayleigh Smith who had a home run and three RBIs on the day.

MAC will open State B/C softball tournament action in Florence when they face Huntley Project at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
