News from North Lake County Public Library

POLSON — On August 19, 2021, at 5:30 p.m. the North Lake County Public Library will host Karen Dunwell as she presents: “Busting the Monster Myth: Flathead Monster Reports & Sightings.”

Karen Dunwell is the President of the Polson Flathead Lake Museum and has been collecting information on our “Nessie” for several years. Legend has it that sightings of “Nessie,” the Flathead Lake version of its own “monster,” goes back to the earliest days of human habitation in the area. The m useum has the only documented catch of the Monster in 1955 by local fishermanLeslie Griffith.

Monster sightings still occur each year as area residents and visitors spot mystery creatures on Flathead lake’s surface. Local author, the late Paul Fugleberg, wrote his diary highlighting Nessie sightings in Flathead Lake for the last 50 years. The diary can be viewed at the museum.

The library is open from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information, call the Library at 406-883-8225 or visit our website: www.northlakecountylibrary.org.
