POLSON — Cloudy skies and a cool breeze created ideal conditions for Saturday’s eighth Polson Triathlon.
The event includes an Olympic-distance swim of 1,500-meters (0.93 miles) in open water in Flathead Lake, a bike ride of 40 kilometers (24.9 miles) through the Mission Valley and a 10 kilometer (6.2 miles) run through the streets of Polson.
Matt Seeley, of Polson, continued to show his dominance over the Polson Triathlon by capturing his third overall title with a winning time of two hours, eight minutes and seven seconds. Seeley claimed runner-up honors in 2012 and 2013 before winning the event back-to-back in 2014 and 2015.
Timothy McOmber grabbed men’s runner-up honors with a time of 02:09:15. Lane Seeley was in third place with a time of 02:15:06. Mike Windauer placed fourth with 02:17:25, and Brian Schur, 02:23:05, finished in the fifth spot.
In her third attempt, Scarlet Kaplan, of Whitefish, outdistanced the competition in the women’s race by a little over 10 minutes for the win with a time of 02:22:02. Kaplan placed sixth in 2012 and finished 10th in 2015.
Maja Lebon claimed second with a time of 02:32:44. Rounding out the top five lady finishers were Jenni Brown, 02:34:56, with third; Carrie Jacobs, 02:36:49, in fourth; and Wendy Seguine, 02:40:59, in fifth.
Proceeds from the triathlon have been used to support numerous community organizations. The Polson High School cross country team is this year’s beneficiary. The cross country team will open their 2021 prep cross country season on Sept. 3.
