Editor,

Kale Gooser Thomas’ letter to the local community of non-Indians reeks of hatred. Many of us reading your words are highly offended by your assumption that because of a few in the white race carrying bias against you and your people, all of us are of similar mind. Your chutzpah to lump us all together is mind-boggling. My hope is that the likes of you, including others like you here on the rez, are but few. Another thing, your use of the word “allow.” Allow as you put it – we non-Indians to drill wells, use the lake, drink “your” water – and etc. was actually an extremely ignorant comment. Most of us living here and paying taxes on our property feel all those listings of “allowed” mentioned by you are God-given natural amenities of this area, and surely not given, or allowed by you or the tribe out of the goodness of your hearts.

Lastly, in my circle of friends and relatives (some of which are tribal) we never in any way abuse or slur tribal people verbally. Most generally in social settings we don’t even think about the fact that we are on the S&K lands, we just think of this as the Mission Valley, and a beautiful place to live and co-exist.
