Pirates battle C-Falls, Whitefish

The Polson boys’ soccer team fell in two conference games last week, losing to Columbia Falls 3-1 and to Whitefish 8-1.
Against C-Falls, Morgan Moll converted a feed from Jonah Kasnitz to an upper corner shot off his left foot. It was Moll’s third goal of his varsity career but it was the first one off his foot, as the previous two came from headers.
“Unfortunately, this was a game that we had high expectations for and really needed the win to start our push to the playoffs,” head coach Jess Kittle said. “We didn’t play well in this game but I am confident that when we play them again in a couple weeks, we will perform better.”
In Whitefish, Jonah Kasnitz and Alex Helgeson moved the ball up the field very well at the end of the game using a series of quick passes to get Kasnitz free for the goal — only the second time in seven games that Whitefish had been scored on this season.
“Even though the score doesn’t reflect a good game, I feel like we played much better in this game than we did in the 1-3 loss to Columbia Falls on the previous day. Spencer Kittle had his best day at the keeper position of his varsity career,” Kittle said. “Although no keeper likes getting eight goals against them, his 12 saves in the game were all difficult saves, the score could have been much more lopsided if he hadn’t been on his toes diving to everything he could get his hands on.”
The Pirates, now with a 1-3-0 record, host Libby Saturday.
