MISSOULA — Five of Arlee’s seven cross-country runners had lifetime personal records at the Mountain West meet in Missoula last weekend. Scarlet Jess Knoll, the team’s only girl, cut 14 seconds off her previous time.

“This is her first year running, and she has shown great determination and drive,” head coach Katea Dreiling said.

Donovan McDonald improved his all-state time from last year by 12 seconds. Parker Holz continued his improvement streak and cut 36 seconds off the previous week’s time. Dennis Ahenakew and Isaac Desjarlais both cut more than 10 seconds off their previous times, 14 seconds and 12 seconds respectively. Zach Felsman may have missed his lifetime PR by 17 seconds, but he improved by almost three minutes from last year.

“It really was a great meet overall; our splits were tighter and they showed how strong they have become,” Dreiling said.

As Mountain West is a large meet with teams from Washington and Idaho, the Arlee boys were interested in watching the varsity competition, so they ran the JV race.

“It was nice getting them in their race before their nerves could really comprehend how large of a meet Mountain West is,” Dreiling said.
