RONAN — The Ronan Chiefs lost to Deer Lodge last weekend 25-8 after getting off to a rough start.
Deer Lodge scored after retaining possession on an onside kick. With their second play from scrimmage, the Wardens threw a double pass for a touchdown.
Ronan outgained Deer Lodge in rushing yards and total yards with 16 first downs. However, 85 yards in penalties proved costly and eliminated several touchdowns and first-down gains.
Standout performances include Carston Baertsch rushing for 127 yards on 27 carries, and Colby Roberts rushing for 102 yards, a touchdown, and a 2-point conversion.
“Our kids fought hard throughout the game despite the early adversity,” head coach Jim Benn said. “As we continue to improve and eliminate mistakes, we will enhance our opportunity to win games.”
Ronan plays Loyola on the road Friday.
