RONAN — Aug. 24 was the second annual Job Corps National Commencement Day. The Kicking Horse Job Corps Center is one of 125 centers in the country and contributes to the training of more than 43,000 currently enrolled students.
Job Corps serves American youth 16-24, who are “at promise.” The primary aim is to help the enrollees to become responsible adults, able to obtain and hold productive jobs, return to school, further training, or satisfy armed forces entrance requirements. During the program year from July 1, 2011, through June 30, 2012, Kicking Horse Job Corps Center has accumulated many accomplishments: 96 GED certificates were earned, seven high school diplomas were earned; and 168 students completed a career technical trade. Of students who completed the program, 163 have attained employment since leaving the center.
“We are marking the Job Corps program’s anniversary with a collective recognition of our students’ success,” stated Edna Primrose, National Director of Job Corps.
She also said, “The day represents the culmination of hard work and perseverance of our students, which could not have been achieved without the support and guidance of our dedicated staff. Our graduates should be proud of their accomplishments, and we are certainly extremely proud of them.”
We would like to acknowledge the following students for earning a GED certificate from July 1 through Aug. 21: Jared Fowler, Troy Brown, Holly Watterson, Jacob Lopez, Stephanie Little Light, Aminah Lewis, Jessica American Horse, Angelica Pena, Chris Whitworth, Tyler Crantz, Tyler Kent, Brittany Charlie, Jonnine Hernandez, Brendan Youpee, De’Autri Green and Natalie Cannot.
