HELENA — The Polson Pirate and Lady Pirate cross-country runners turned in a strong showing at the Montana Class A State Championships held at the Bill Roberts Golf Course in Helena. The Polson girls were sixth out of 18 teams, and the boys 12th out of 20 teams.

“Both teams performed well under pressure and wrapped up their 2012 seasons with hard efforts against tough competition,” head coach Matt Seeley said.

After struggling with an injury all season, Marlee Seemann ran hard to finish under 23 minutes and sixth out of the Polson boys. Travis Hayes had a gutsy start to his last race and then held on to finish inside the top 20 for the first time, and Jimmy Bjorge wrapped up four great years with a solid run and third-place finish for the Pirates.

“It has been great to work with Marlee, Travis and Jimmy, and they have had a huge positive impact on the cross-country program at Polson,” Seeley said.

The Polson girls had five runners in the top 50, led by Claudia Hewston’s all-state 10th place finish.

“Sandra Crossett ran very well in her first state meet and finished in 20th place and the second fastest freshman in the race,” Seeley added.
