RONAN — The Aug. 22 Toastmasters meeting at the Ronan Tribal Senior Center was a typical well-run, fast-paced but relaxed and enjoyable gathering.

Speaker Elsie DeMars stated, “A day in which something has not been learned is a day wasted.”

Her life-long curiosity and love of learning is being fed recently through DVDs and books from the Great Courses of the World company. Having learned about some of the great trials and tribulations that societies have gone through in the past has given her hope that the present world calamities will be overcome.

Table topics centered around the theme, “favorite sport.” One member allowed that her favorite sport was relaxing on the hammock reading a good book with a glass of ice tea.

The table topics master turned the questions towards exercise. She demonstrated a facial exercise designed to prevent wrinkles and invited us to give it a try. Goodness knows, I could stand to practice that exercise daily. One member was asked, “What exercise would you demonstrate to an audience? Imagine you are on TV and are describing an exercise.”

Packed summer schedules including farm work, family gatherings and travels are the reason for the summer’s infrequent meetings of All Ways Talking Toastmasters.

The bi-monthly schedule will continue in September. Come to the 6 p.m. potluck meeting Sept. 26.

Call 675-2142 for directions.
