Editor,

I know that this is on everyone’s mind. So I decided to say it. What is the good of all those political signs on Hwy. 93, those ongoing TV ads, radio spots and the mailbox full of glossy print? At every meeting, at lunch counters and home dinner tables, the complaints keep rolling in. Let’s take the names and statements off the table.   Look at all of the above as good hard cash and hard work; that’s all that should come to our minds.

Look at them as income. That’s right; the printer, the sign-maker, the broadcaster, the supplier of material to get the signs set up. Some good, hardworking people are making money from all this. The millions, if not billions, going into publicity are good for some very deserving people: the suppliers of the goods needed for all this.  Even the mail service is getting “job security” from all those pamphlets in our mailbox. I hope with all the ads on TV and the money coming into the stations from them that they will save some time after Nov. 6 for some free public announcements.  I love “free speech,” even if it costs a lot to have it.

See you all on Nov. 7 when life goes back to normal and we can watch the real ads, read the real news, and hope for a family letter in our mailbox.
