DIXON — The forest fire smoke is back after a couple of blue-sky days, and our school kids are settled in for the year. Please watch out for children around school buses and as they come and go along the way. Have you noticed the busy v’s of geese getting in formation to head south? And some people making plans to do the same. I am making a list of flowers that lasted through August, as most of the ones I counted on just didn’t make it this year.

Thanks to all of you who came to Dixon on Melon Day. There was a lot going on, and we had a busy, chattering time at the delicious meal served at the center after the parade. Our member, Vic Charlo, was happily waving to the crowd as Grand Marshall this year. Joyce Siers was excited to win the $100 drawing for groceries. It takes a lot of behind-the-scenes helpers to put this on. Much appreciation to you all.

Pinochle is enjoyed on the fourth Monday of each month at Dixon Senior Center at 7 p.m. Come for dinner and stay to play. Darlene Solomon was the high scorer at the last meeting. Low scorer was Ray Solomon. Sharon Guenzler had the most double pinochles and Anita Seibert won the door prize.

Meals coming up:

Thursday, Sept. 6: ham, scalloped potatoes

Monday, Sept. 10: chicken pot pie

Thursday, Sept. 13: cabbage rolls, baked beans

Monday, Sept. 17: pulled pork sandwiches

Thursday, Sept. 20: turkey

Come join us for meals on Mondays at 6 p.m., and lunch on Thursdays at noon. All ages are invited. We have enjoyed your company this summer, especially Marge and Harvey Gould’s granddaughter and husband with their adorable toddler, Raelynn. Delene and Roy Tufly’s granddaughter appreciated having someone close to her age to communicate with.

Another thanks to you who are sharing your fresh produce this summer. We surely enjoy having it served for our meals.
