POLSON — The Mission-Charlo wrestlers started off the season with a good showing at the Polson Invitational last weekend. Junior Jacen Peterson placed first at 171 pounds, winning 15-0 over Quinten Denton of Ronan. Petersen was the second-place finisher at last year’s state tournament at 160, and Denton was third in the same weight class. It was a good start for Petersen, who also pinned his first three opponents.

“After finishing second at state last year, (Petersen) is very hungry,” coach Lyle Cronk said. “He worked hard in the off-season and continues to improve.”

Freshman Emilio Bravo placed second at 215 pounds, where he lost to James Weidow of Corvallis by a pin in the second period.

“It is pretty exciting to have a freshman in the finals of a tournament of this caliber,” Cronk said. “Emilio is a tough kid who has a lot of wrestling experience. I am looking forward to watching him improve throughout the season.”

Steven Bravo placed fourth at 152 pounds and also looked extremely impressive, piling up three pins on his way to fourth place after falling to the eventual champion Mike Devlin from Polson by pin in the first period.
