Editor,

My name is Michael Glicksberg. I was the first bass guitar player for the Bop-A-Dips back in 1973-74. Greg Carter was one of the featured singers at that time.

Greg has kept a version of this band going for almost 40 years. This band has always been available for benefits, fundraisers and numerous community activities in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana that I know of through the years.

Even back in 1973, we did shows where parents, grandparents and children would attend. Back in those days, people would drink and most likely engage in other activities, and I never was witness to anything that could be deemed offensive by our audience.

We always structured our show to the audience. If we were doing a performance for fraternities and sororities, the content might be a little more “adult-oriented,” but this was society in the 70s.

The gentleman who complained that Greg Carter was promoting the misuse of alcohol needs to re-assess his own issues and character.  Telling people to go have a beer is not insulting or a promotion of use. If you are 21 years of age, you have the legal right to choose to drink. Many people choose not to.

I would hope that the great state of Montana is not becoming so P.C. that it is becoming California. Shall we start referring to mail carriers as mail persons? Better yet, shall we call them person persons so we do not slight any women?

Do not punish Greg Carter or the Bop-A-Dips for a single person who is only happy when he makes others as miserable as he is.

Better yet, go meet Greg. One of the greatest guys, oops, persons I have had the pleasure to know through the years.

Michael L. Glicksberg
