MISSOULA — Ronan resident Corwin D. Cornelius, 34, was killed in a three vehicle accident Jan. 13 in Missoula.

Cornelius was traveling north on North Reserve Street when his Dodge minivan crossed the center line and impacted two southbound vehicles — a Toyota pickup and a Saturn Vue.

All three drivers were injured. Cornelius was taken to a Missoula hospital where he later died of his injuries.

The crash occurred on the Reserve Street Bridge between Mullan Road and River Road. As law enforcement is still investigating the crash, few details have emerged regarding what caused the accident.

Missoula Police Detective Sgt. Travis Welsh could not comment as to the cause of the accident, whether or not drugs or alcohol were involved, or if the case would be referred to the Missoula County Attorney.

“That’s part of what we’re trying to determine through our investigation — the cause of the crash,” Welsh said. “It’s not a matter of just ‘driver across the center line.’ It looks like the driver may have lost control before he crossed (into oncoming traffic.)”

Welsh said his department is in contact with several witnesses and that all three drivers were alone in their respective vehicles. While he said all three drivers were injured and transported to an area hospital, Welsh said he did not know what injuries were treated or their current status.

At present, no one is in custody and Welsh could not comment on the possibility of charges being filed.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call the Missoula Police Department at (406) 552-6300.
