EUREKA — The Indian Springs Invitational Meet in Eureka last weekend saw a good showing from the Ronan cross-country squad.

In the team standings, the Ronan boys placed first with 47 points over Thompson Falls (other teams did not have full squads). The girls scored 30 points; no other girls’ teams had full squads.

Five girls and two boys ran personal bests at the meet, head coach Noelle Decker said.

Danny Romero ran one second slower than he had the week before to take third place overall and lead the boys’ team.

“Given the track workouts that we began this week and a few other tough practices, I was pleased to have the boys do so well,” Decker said. “Between our first and fifth boy, there were two minutes, and we will continue to work on closing that gap. What I like best about this boys’ team is they work hard together and push one another.”

On the girls’ side, Kiana Howell bettered her time from the previous week by almost a minute and a half.

“(Howell) and Jacey (Probst) lead the Ronan girls, and it was good to see these two gals step up and fill those shoes,” Decker said. “We have several other capable girls who have shown a lot of improvement and we will see how things shape up over the next month or so.”

Decker and her runners will host the Ronan Invitational Saturday at Pablo’s Silver Fox Golf Course.
