SILVERWOOD, Idaho — The Polson Pirate cross-country runners all posted their best times of the year at the Coaster Cross Meet at Silverwood Theme Park in Idaho. According to coach Matt Seeley, all evidence seems to suggest the course was slightly longer than the normal 3-mile distance, and was 5 kilometers (3.1 miles). To figure runners’ times, Seeley adjusted last mile splits with the extra 1/10 of a mile removed.

“Noah Fouty improved the most by dropping 2:37 from his Cut Bank finish, and the top three boys managed to keep all of their mile splits below six minutes,” Seeley said. “Cade Howlett dropped convincingly under the 20-minute barrier, and Thunder Morales had a blistering last mile to do the same.”

For the girls, Claudia Hewston finished strong, dropping 1:16 and finishing up just three spots and a few seconds from a top-15 award against some of the Northwest’s best runners, Seeley noted. The next biggest improver was Amanda Stobie, who dropped 1:12 to get very close to the 22-minute mark.

This week, the team will have a Hovenkotter/Howlett dinner at Howlett’s place Friday night and then head to Pablo for the Ronan Invitational at Silver Fox Golf Course Saturday morning.
