Charlo girls, Two Eagle boys hang on in 14-C tourney

RONAN — The Charlo girls and Two Eagle boys won loser-out games today, surviving to play in another round of the District 14-C basketball tournament in Ronan. Charlo sent the Two Eagle River Lady Eagles home from the tournament after their 11:15 a.m. matchup, and the Two Eagle Eagles beat St. Regis Friday afternoon, 68-45.

The Charlo Lady Vikings cruised to victory over the Two Eagle River Lady Eagles, led by 18 points from senior Rachel Hoyt. Aspen Runkel added 14 points, followed by Mkalister Rosenbaum's nine. Charlo will face the loser of Friday night's Arlee-Hot Springs matchup at 9 a.m. Saturday. The Lady Eagles saw their postseason run come to an end.

Two Eagle's boys had better luck, oushooting the Tigers 34-14 in the paint. The Eagles, led by senior point guard Clayton Malatare's 18 points, got another 17 buckets from senior Cole Noble. Senior William Michel grabbed seven rebounds to lead Two Eagle to a total of 18 boards, 10 shy of the Tigers' 28. The Eagles charged to a 21-8 victory over St. Regis in the first period, taking a lead they wouldn't give up the whole game. At 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Two Eagle will play the loser of the Superior-Charlo game slated for 8 p.m Friday.
