POLSON — The Polson PRCA Rodeo will be even more enjoyable this year with new seating and renovated grandstands. The grandstands at the Polson Fairgrounds are getting a seat lift, thanks to a grant from the Montana Department of Transportation. Funded by lodging tax collected across the state of Montana, the $80,000 grant had to be spent on tourism-related projects. But first, Polson Fairgrounds Inc. had to raise $40,000, since it was a two-for-one grant.
With silent and live auctions at the PFI’s annual Cowboy Ball and concession stands at rodeos, the group raised the $40,000. Then rookie grant writers and UFI members Una Rose Graham, Toni Burton and Sharon Procopio wrote a grant, which the group received in the fall of 2012.
Contractor Tommy Seifert and his construction crew are replacing the seats and decks in the grandstands and pouring a slab in front of the southern grandstand. They will be on the job for another two weeks, if the weather stays good, Seifert said.
Summer 2012 was busy for the PFI, with concerts, a rodeo Bible camp, fireworks viewing on the Fourth of July, the Garcon Gulch fire camp, the Polson PRCA rodeo, the Indian National Finals Rodeo, a United Indian Rodeo Association rodeo, the Polson High School rodeo and the PHS cross country meet.
With improved seating and walkways, the PFI may draw more events this summer.
