Kudos to local representatives

Editor,

I feel like Mr. McClellan writing so often, but tonight’s local TV news told of our House legislature’s recent action and moved me. Kudos to our three county representatives on voting “yea” on HB 240, the bill to override the University of Montana regents’ authority and finally allow our kids to carry firearms to college.

Looking into the past, I see that during the last 30 years the only on campus shooting was an accidental discharge of a shotgun in the parking lot, wounding the gun’s owner. But I am aware that in spite of no viable reason for this bill, the idea that the behavior of college-age students who have been known to do things during their college years that, well, let’s just say are often best forgotten later, can only improve the safety record in the eyes of these elected officials. And by party affiliation, my assumption is that our Senate will also approve this, leaving only the governor standing in the way of true progress.

I am glad our legislature is not wasting time on less important state issues when they can spend time insuring the Second Amendment rights are not violated by uncaring college administrators. We elected these guys, so good for us, too. We are as smart as they are.
