POLSON — The first bowhunter education class of 2013 in Lake County is scheduled for April 16, 18 and 20. That’s Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 9 p.m., and Saturday is a field course from 8 a.m. to noon. The evening classes will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 409 Fourth Ave. in Polson, adjacent to Linderman School. Students will be given directions to the field course location Thursday evening. There is no cost for the class.
Students can sign up on the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks website at fwp.mt.gov, and click on the “education” tab, or at the following address: http://my.register-ed.com/event/studentchooseevent. Students are encouraged to pre-register online, but no one will be turned away from the class if not pre-registered. For more information, contact Dave Conrad at (406) 883-4236. Anyone under age 18 will need the written authorization of a parent or guardian, which can be accomplished the first night of class. Students must attend all three sessions of the course, and must pass a written test given on Saturday.
By Montana State law, all first-time bowhunters, regardless of age, must pass the bowhunter education course to purchase an archery license in Montana.
The local archery club, Mission Valley Archers, offers free participation at club shoots for the first summer following graduation from the bow ed class, and the club’s first shoot is scheduled for the next weekend, April 27-28, at Big Sky Sporting Clays.
