A Ronan man who allegedly stabbed an acquaintance in October was sentenced last Wednesday in District Court after accepting a plea agreement with the state.

Jon Lozeau, 23, received a five-year deferred sentence and was ordered to serve 30 days in the Lake County Jail and pay a $500 fine and other court fees for the crime assault on a peace officer, a felony. As part of the plea agreement, the state dropped charges against Lozeau in the alleged stabbing of 18-year-old John Allen in the chest on Oct. 2 in Ronan and dismissed a felony charge of threats and improper influence. Lozeau had been out on bail after being charged with two counts of felony assault with a weapon in the Allen stabbing when he was involved in another incident Dec. 12 outside Dick’s Pheasant Lounge on Main Street in Ronan.

According to the affidavit, the Ronan Police Department responded to a call about a fight at an apartment building at about 1 a.m. When they arrived, Lozeau was standing outside yelling at several people. A Ronan officer approached him, but Lozeau was agitated and wouldn’t calm down, so the officer had Lozeau sit in the back of the patrol car. But Lozeau remained combative and aggressive, so the officer asked him to get out of the car to put handcuffs on, the report states.

Lozeau allegedly struggled with the officer, punched him in the head and spit on him, saying, “I’m going to get your wife and kids,” a threat that resulted in a felony charge of threats and improper influence. The affidavit states that it took two officers to subdue Lozeau, who struggled with both of them.

Lozeau was also charged with assault on a peace officer following the incident.
