Runners, walkers, strollers and dogs enter March Meltdown

POLSON — Sunshine and blue skies brought out lots of runners, walkers and dogs for Polson Running’s March Meltdown held on March 12 at 10 a.m.
“We had a great turnout thanks to the beautiful weather,” Tyana Smith, race organizer, said. “Hills, sweat and smiles are always guaranteed on that course.”
Runners, walkers, strollers and dogs started at the soccer fields on Kerr Dam Road and ran a loop by Cherry Valley School, the Polson Middle and High Schools, west on 19th Ave. W and up the hill to Grenier Lane to connect again with the walking path on Kerr Dam Road back to the start/finish line. About 153 people turned out for the 5K/10K walk/run with 31 folks completing the course twice for the 10K.
Proceeds of $1,806 from the race went to Cub Scout Troop 4945, Smith said. She also thanked the participants and sponsors for making the March Meltdown a fun event.
Winners of the 5K were Shari Leedom, 16, first place female, with a time of 24:04 and Travis Bowman, 15, first place male in 19:11.
Female winner of the 10K was Rachel DePuy, 32, in a time of 41:20. Jon DePuy, 37, placed first for the men in 44:01.
