As Friends of the Ronan City Library get creative with their fundraising strategies, they’ve called on the community to get creative as well. Area residents have taken everyday chairs and given them a new lease on life by painting and decorating them for auction. A portion of the money will go towards a program called Montana Library To Go, which provides readers with books they can view online. Remaining funds will be used to purchase new books.

Library director Michelle Fenger says that she is pleased with raffle ticket sales.

“Tickets are quickly running out,” she said.

To be present at the auction, one needs to buy a ticket. The event will be held April 1, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Mission Mountain Golf Course. Each ticket is $5. Fenger encourages those interested in purchasing tickets to act fast, as only ten are still available.

She appreciates how the community has come together to make the fundraiser a big success already.

“It’s really nice to see the creativity of the community,” she said. “People have created some really unique chairs.”

Those who attend the auction can expect to bid on chairs with various themes, such as a bison hide covered chair, or a pink and white ballerina seat. A few chairs are colorfully hand-painted, without a specific theme.

According to Fenger, most chairs went through a radical transformation while being painted.

“It’s cool to see (the chairs) before and after,” she commented.

The auction will contain 30 chairs, as well as art pieces donated by the community. All of the seats have been painted by local artists, with no two alike.

Later this spring, the group will host their annual book sale, during which discarded or donated books will be auctioned. They also receive fundraising assistance from Friends of the Ronan City Library (FORCL), an organization whose goal is to provide financial support for the library, and to also sponsor cultural and related programs.

Fenger says she is unsure of how well the auction will go, since this is the first time the library has hosted such an event. So far all appears to be going well.

“If it turns out to be a big hit we plan on continuing this annually,” Fenger said.
