POLSON — A memorandum of understanding between the city of Polson and Will Mavis for a street renovation project underway on Mission View and Skyline Drives was the main topic at the Polson City commissioners meeting on Feb. 7.

The entrance to Mission View is dangerous and very steep, Polson city manager Todd Crossett said. He described work done under the MOU as a “win-win” situation for Stelling Engineers, Inc., as well as the owner of the property, Will Mavis. Mavis would get a safer, less steep entrance to his property, and Stelling would solve an engineering problem by reconfiguring Mission View Drive and save money on fill dirt and walls.

At the same time, the TIGER Grant funded Skyline Project will pick up the cost of replacing the six-inch water line and replace it with eight-inch pipe.

“All it’s going to cost the city is the cost of the pipe,” Crossett explained, adding that Mavis will pay for his own taps.

The commission unanimously voted to authorize the MOU.

During the city manager comments, Crossett brought up the following issues and events:

• The Fireman’s Ball on Saturday, Feb. 12. He urged people to go and support the Polson Volunteer Fire Department.

• Lights are up on the first block of Main Street, closest to Highway 93. The crew will be moving south, and the lights were installed by Feb. 11. The cobrahead lights will be fitted with LED lights.

• The city ran two tests on the storm water system on a couple of Main Street businesses that had more storm water than usual. The system passed; the extra water was not caused by a failure in the storm water system.

• Moving ahead with the Polson Development Code rewrite.

• During the strategic planning workshop, Polson City commissioners and staff came up with a vision statement, which will be available to the public soon.

• Scheduling for Crossett’s evaluation.

• Regarding the 93 Corridor Study, choices have been narrowed down to five or six routes. The next step will be taking the choices before governing bodies and the public to decide which or a combination of which makes the most sense. Nearly all the routes include a new bridge.

Commissioners approved the December cash report and voted to change the date of the next meeting to Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. instead of Feb. 23. The Feb. 22 meeting will still be held at 7 p.m.
