Eagles close out regular season with win
PABLO - Two Eagles River’s Artie Mendoza scored nine of his game-high 24 points in the opening eight minutes as the first quarter was the difference for the Eagles in a 76-69 win over visiting Hot Springs Saturday.
Mendoza’s strong opening quarter helped the Eagles jump out to a 21-13 lead after eight minutes of play. The Savage Heat trimmed the Eagle lead by one in the second frame as Two Eagle led 33-26 at the half.
The Eagles outscored Hot Springs by two in the third to take a 52-43 lead into the final quarter. Both teams had no trouble finding the basket in a high-scoring fourth quarter as the Savage Heat outscored the Eagles 26-22 over the final eight minutes but could not completely close the gap as Two Eagle River earned a seven-point victory.
Mendoza’s 24 points led Two Eagle in the victory while Skyler Rossback added 12 and Clayton Malatare and Trevor Butterfly each added 11.
The Savage Heat were led by Zack Malink with 19 while Cody Hoff added 16 and Dave Cross scored 14.
With the win, the Eagles close out the regular season with a 9-9 record overall and a 5-5 mark in district play.
The Savage Heat are 2-7 in district and 7-10 overall.
The post season begins for the Eagles Thursday as the District 14-C tournament gets underway in Ronan.
