Warriors pick up pair of wins, Scarlets fall in 2010 finale

SUPERIOR - The Warriors moved to 2-1 in conference play last week as they entered the holiday break with a pair of wins over Superior and Two Eagle River.

The Warriors had two players score in double figures and another pair knocking on the door Tuesday evening as Arlee jumped ahead early and never looked back on their way to a 56-46 win at Superior.

Kasey Bridgewater led Arlee with 14 points, Trae Burland added 13, Thomas McClure had nine and Jesse Pfau added eight in the win as the Warriors jumped out to a 21-14 lead after one quarter. It was more Arlee in the second frame as the Warriors outscored Superior 15-8 to grab a 36-22 halftime advantage.

Arlee pushed the lead to 51-32 after three quarters and took the foot off the gas in the final eight minutes to cruise to a 10-point win.

Dakota Desjarlais and Beau Couture each added five points in the win while Eneas Inmee added two.

With the win, the Warriors enter the break 5-1 overall and 2-1 in district action.

The Warriors used a strong opening quarter to help get a win Monday as they picked up a victory at home over Two Eagle River, 72-66.

Bridgewater ignited the Warrior offense in the opening quarter, connecting on a trio of three-pointers to help Arlee build a 22-11 lead. 

The Eagles chipped away at that lead over the next three quarters but were unable to complete their comeback as Arlee held on to win by six.

Burland led the way for the Warriors with a game-high 23 points while Bridgewater finished with 17.

Two Eagle River had four players in double figures in the loss, led by Clayton Malatare wtih 19. T.J. Cutfinger added 17, Artie Mendoza had 12 and Marcus Brown finished with 11.

The Scarlets fell in their final game of 2010 Tuesday as they came up short at home against Superior, 62-47.

Kaitlynn Koke was too much for the Scarlets to handle in the contest as she led Superior with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

The Scarlets were paced by Mahalia Hendren with 14 points while Kristyn Adams added 11.

Superior used strong first and fourth quarters to get the win, outscoring the Scarlets 14-7 in the opening frame and 18-10 over the final eight minutes of the contest.

Along with Hendren and Adams good games for the Scarlets, Whitney Malatare scored seven, Alexis Schick added six, Kayla Desjarlais had three and Desirae Nault, Jenna Pablo and Eva Borderly each added two.

Superior had two players in double figures besides Koke, Ashley Blaylock with 12 and Cary Chamberlain with 10 points.

The Warriors and Scarlets will be back on the court Jan.6 as they host Hot Springs.
