Polson girls 5th, boys 4th in Corvallis

CORVALLIS — Polson track and field competed in the Gene Hughes Invitational in Corvallis Saturday, with the girls scoring 37.5 to take fifth place and the boys coming in fourth with 55.5 points.

For the girls, Anna DiGiallonardo took second in the 100-meter dash in 13.37, seventh in the 300 hurdles in 56.35, and fifth in high jump (4-8). Claudia Hewston won the 800-meter run in 2:29.00 and was second in the pole vault (8-0). Hallie Hovenkotter finished eighth in the 1,600-meter in 5:53.60.

Erica Alfiero was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 55.67.

The Lady Pirate 4x100 relay team of Alicia Sicz, Alfiero, DiGiallonardo and Taylor Davis finished fifth in 54.34.

Jewel Zakit-Ackermann took third in shot put (32-02) and eighth in discus (96-09). Amanda Harrod threw for seventh place in discus (97-02).

On the boys’ side, Sean Laimbeer was sixth in the 400-meter race in 56.03. Tel Motichka took second in the 800-meter in 2:09.40, and Travis Hayes was seventh in that race with a time of 2:18.80. Motichka was also fifth in the 1,600 (4:58.40), while Jimmy Bjorge came in eighth in the 3,200-meter run (11:20.00). Will Davey took fourth in the 300 hurdles in 47.11, and teammate Jared Rubel came in sixth (50.13). Rubel was also sixth in high jump (5-04) and fourth in pole vault (11-0). Dylan Kelley cleared 10-0 for sixth place in the pole vault. Davey also took fifth in long jump (19-09.5), while Jacob Clairmont was sixth (19-05.5).

Riley Sampson won the shot put with a toss of 51 feet, 8.5 inches, and took second in discus (139-04).

The Pirate 4x100 relay team of Davey, Laimbeer, Eric Williamson and Hayes finished third in 46.20. Laimbeer, Davey, Motichka and Hayes came in second behind Stevensville in the 4x400-meter relay (3:38.17).

Polson traveled to Kalispell Tuesday for the Flathead Invitational and will compete at the Missoula County Invitational Saturday.
