POLSON — “Christmas at the OK Corral” hit the stage at Polson High School on Dec. 15 starring about 140 second graders from Linderman School.
Second grade teachers Julie Calhoun, Sheri Delaney, Kris Nordberg, Melinda Orchard, Jennifer Seifert and Kristin Wilson combined their classes to put on the holiday play, a purchased play with added parts.
They started practicing right after Thanksgiving, assigning parts, learning lines and blocking choreography, Calhoun explained.
Nordberg and Seifert made all the costumes — cow, pig, sheep and horse suits, Santa and Mrs. Clause outfits, candy cane kids, — with a few purchased touches such as elf hats with attached ears and Christmas tree-shaped sunglasses. Kids wore their own western or plaid shirts and jeans. Student Luke Nelson said the best part was saying his lines, adding that the kids practiced a lot.
Wearing hats was the most fun part for Waylon Gravelle.
The play, according is Wilson, is about a group of outlaws led by Bubble Gum Bart who want to abolish Christmas. Santa’s Candy Cane Kids save the day.
It’s a musical with students singing and dancing.
Judging by the size of the crowd of family and friends and audience response to the one-liners, jokes, songs and dances, the play was a holiday success.
