ALBERTON — A different Viking stepped up each night as Charlo started the season by breezing past Superior and Alberton.

Chance Rosenbaum dominated the paint and finished with 15 points in the Vikings’ 50-31 season-opening victory over the Bobcats in Charlo Friday and in Alberton Saturday Stephen Delaney came off the bench to score a game-high 18 points to propel the Vikes to a 52-32 victory.

Against the Bobcats, Viking guard Dillon Delaney connected on his first three 3-point attempts in the first quarter to help the Vikings to a 16-7 lead after the first quarter.

Once the Bobcats had to respect the outside shot, Rosenbaum took over the game in the inside. The senior finished with 15 points and pulled down 10 boards for his first double-double of the season.

“He (Rosenbaum) was solid down low and I thought he got mugged quite a bit, but I told him you better get used to it. That’s just how he plays. He’s just a hard-nosed player,” Charlo coach Mike Brown said.

Rosenbaum took 14 foul shots, connecting on seven of them.

The Vikings’ defense never let the Bobcats find their rhythm. They pressured their inexperienced guards and didn’t let them exploit their height inside. The Vikings came up with 13 steals, with Chico Stipe leading the way with six. Stipe also pulled down seven boards to go along with three points. Garrett Herron finished with nine points.

After sitting out the entire football season with a back injury, Stephen Delaney was more than ready to go in, when Brown called on him Saturday in Alberton.

“He was kind of chomping at the bit to get in and play,” Brown said.

Stephen responded by scoring 18 points and hauling in 11 boards.

“He came in with a lot of energy. He gave us a threat on the low-post and he was solid on defense,” Brown said.

Kolton Andrews pumped in 10 points and Dillon Delaney finished with nine.

The Vikings (2-0) will host Noxon Saturday for their first conference game of the season.
