PHS speech, drama, debate students move on to state

LIBBY — After a three and a half hour bus ride to Libby, Polson High School Speech Debate and Drama competitors got down to business at the Jan. 22 Northwestern Class A Divisional meet. 

First to sixth-place finishers at the divisional meet will advance to the Montana State Class A Speech, Debate and Drama meet in Laurel. 

PHS Speech Competitors finished as follows:
Molly Ricketts, Impromptu Speaking, 1st
Selah Waldron, Extemporaneous Speaking, 4th
Zach Calhoun, Humorous Oral Interpretation of Literature, 7th
James Larson, Serious Oral Interpretation of Literature, 4th
Gabbie Link, Serious Oral Interpretation of Literature, 6th. 
Policy Debate, Logan Nutzman/Kelsey Koberg, 3rd, and
Eric DeLay/Reed Hovenkotter, 4th

In the drama events, PHS placings were:
Nation Garza, 1st, Molly WhiteWater, 6th, and Eryn McGinnis, 7th, Serious Solo Acting;
Delaney Kohler, 2nd, and Emmy Driscoll, 5th, in Humorous Solo Acting;
Larissa Hanson, 3rd, and Sierra Pete, 4th, in Pantomime;
Isak Petersen and Jarrod Plant, 5th, Serious Duo Acting;
Delaney Kohler and Jerry Wachal, 3rd; and Nation Garza and Krysta Seville, 4th, Humorous Duo Acting;
Laura Barta and Sydney Gambrel, 2nd, Classical Duo Acting.  

In overall speech team results, called sweeps, Polson finished second behind Columbia Falls. 

In drama sweeps, Polson ended up third, following Libby in first and Ronan.
