POLSON — A Ronan man who allegedly stabbed an acquaintance in early October pled not guilty last week to two unrelated felony charges.

Jon Lozeau, 23, was charged with assault on a police officer and threats and improper influence, both felonies, and assault with bodily fluid, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, misdemeanors, after a Dec. 12 incident that occurred at Dick’s Pheasant Lounge on Main Street in Ronan. According to the affidavit, the Ronan Police Department responded to a call about a fight at an apartment building at about 1 a.m. When they arrived, Lozeau was standing outside yelling at several people. A Ronan officer approached him, but Lozeau was agitated and wouldn’t calm down, so the officer had Lozeau sit in the back of the patrol car. But Lozeau remained combative and aggressive, so the officer asked him to get out of the car to put handcuffs on, the report states.

Lozeau allegedly struggled with the officer, punched him in the head and spit on him, saying, “I’m going to get your wife and kids,” a threat that resulted in a felony charge of threats and improper influence. The affidavit states that it took two officers to subdue Lozeau, who struggled with both of them.

At the time of the alleged Dec. 12 altercation with the Ronan officers, Lozeau was out on bond after being charged with two counts of felony assault with a weapon in October after he allegedly stabbed 18-year-old John Allen in the chest on Oct. 2 in Ronan. Allen was treated at St. Luke Community Hospital for a stab wound and released. Lozeau pled not guilty to those charges in District Court.

He now remains in custody at the Lake County Jail after Judge C.B. McNeil set his bond at $5,000. Lozeau’s trial is set for Feb. 28. The maximum penalty for the felony counts of assault on a police officer and threats and improper influence is 10 years in prison or a $50,000 fine, or both.
