Dorothy Dennis

RONAN — Dorothy Dennis loved people. Born Feb. 25, 1917 to Frank and Emma Hine, Dorothy was the youngest of eight children. Raised on a farm, she learned the values of hard work and family.

She married Charlie Dennis Nov. 24, 1934, spending 60 years together before Charlie’s passing in 1994. During WWII Dorothy worked in farm fields and canneries in Idaho to help with the war effort. The couple moved from Idaho in 1945 to a beautiful piece of property nestled under the mountains east of Job Corp. where they raised their four children. She always had beautiful gardens, canned her garden’s bounty and worked the farm alongside her beloved “Bus,” as Charlie was affectionately called.

Dorothy was a reader. Through her almost 96 years, her keen wit and intelligence never waned. She loved to chat about neighborhood happenings, politics or her beloved Griz football, especially Tuff Harris. Having won a penmanship prize in her youth, Dorothy continued to write beautiful letters, which are now the prized possessions of her family.

After leaving her home Dorothy found a new family in the staff at St. Luke’s Extended Care in 2009, keeping track of each person who lovingly cared for her during her final years.

Dorothy died peacefully Feb. 14, 2013. She is survived by her children Norman (Albert) Knutson, Arlan Dennis, Jerry (Carol) Dennis, and Marilyn (Arlo) Baltz; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and nine great great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held May 4 at 11 a.m. at the Pablo Christian Church with a luncheon to follow. Instead of flowers memorials may be given to Lake County Boys and Girls Club.
