POLSON —  At the Dec. 6 Polson City Commission meeting, one of the first agenda items was a COPS grant received by the Polson Police Department. The grant would provide a salary for a 13th officer for three years. Then the city would need to pay the officer’s salary for the fourth year.

Polson City Manager Todd Crossett conferred with Polson Police officials on where they could find the money. Crossett said they assumed the economy might not rebound in three years but might stabilize so an assumption of five percent more revenue and an increase in the general fund from Skyline Drive might provide the money.

“There is a reasonable expectation we can fund that position,” Crossett said. “(But) no guarantee ... It’s up to you to decide.”

The commissioners voted unanimously to accept the grant.

Commissioners also unanimously approved the interlocal agreement for transfer of the library to the library district.

Crossett said Mayor Pat DeVries and commissioners Campbell and Lies met with the library board. Their recommendation was to approve the interlocal but not ask for any repayment of funds.

Commissioner Campbell said he didn’t want the library district to start off $75,000 in debt.

“The taxpayers said they wanted this district to succeed,” Campbell explained.

Jules Clavadetscher, Polson Redevelopment Agency board member, reported that the board recommended the city use $50,000 in Tax Increment Financing funds as a contribution to the Streetscape Project “to finish improvements they couldn’t afford.”

The PRA board did not approve a motion for the city to pay $1,000 to Lake County for software maintenance.

In other business, the commission approved:

• a four-year reappointment of A. Doug Olson as Polson City Judge, Jan. 1, 2011 through Dec. 31, 2014

• a three-year contract with Auditor Ronald Paul Foltz CPA

• October cash report

The commissioners will meet for a work session on the Mission Valley Aquatics proposal at 6 p.m. on Dec. 7. Their next regular meeting will be held on Dec. 20 at 7 p.m.
