On the day before Thanksgiving, Ronan Middle School sounded like a jukebox. And while students in the “R” Gobbler Lip Sync Dance Show weren’t making the music, they managed to entertain the whole school with their creative and often hilarious performances.

The show was purely for fun, physical education teacher Crystal Pitts said. She and Steve Woll taught students dance moves and had them come up with lip sync routines during their PE classes, and the top 10 groups got to perform in front of the entire middle school on Nov. 24.

Kids who weren’t comfortable “singing” and dancing in front of a large audience could handle props or announce for their group, Pitts added.

“It’s kind of a nice way to end (school) before Thanksgiving,” Pitts said of the show.

Surf’s Up, a team made up of Jacey Probst, Ashley Peterson, Carston Rhine, Alex Dennis, Tiffany Tallwhiteman, Tyra Michell and Chloe Greenfield, performed the Beach Boys’ classic “Surfin’ USA” to open the event. They were followed by A-O (Jon Andres and Tanner Olson, with Josh Monroe announcing) performing Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”

The Chipmunks — Anselmo Richards, Ray Kempenich and Steven Grubb — were next with “You Spin Me Around.” Shylynn Miller, Annie Couresen and Morgan Davis appeared as The Suns with a rendition of SpongeBob’s “The Best Day Ever.” Ferga Lucious — Justice Lefthand and Kelan Couture, along with Aspen Jore, Logan hakes and Brook Tobol — performed “Fergalicious” by Fergie.

Otis Ferrell appeared as Stu performing “Stu’s Song” from the movie “The Hangover.” He was followed by John and the Angels — John Enger, Cassie Wunderlich, Misty Mendoza and Jordan Ascencio — with Brad Paisley’s “Whiskey Lullaby.” The Bumble Bee Extreme Steppers (McKenzie Dulmes and Danielle Richwine, with Kendra Starkel and Jamie Olson) performed Verbz’ “Swaggerific,” and the Stars (Shelby Morel, Haley Atwood, Faith Noland-Faroni, Madison Harris) followed with Natasha Bedington’s “Love Like This.”

Gabe (Gabe Azure, Mylan Caye and Glen Parker) wound up the show with Michael Jackson’s “Beat It.”
