Law enforcement officers turned into runners and bikers for Lake County’s leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

Beginning at the Armed Forces Memorial Bridge in Polson at 8 a.m., Polson Police Officers, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies, Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Law Enforcement Officers, a CSKT Council member, Montana Highway Patrol Troopers, family members and friends took turns running or biking two-mile segments. The weather cooperated with temperatures in the 50s.

MHP Trooper Shad Andersen and Tribal Law Enforcement Captain Louie Fiddler coordinated the event and accompanied runners and bikers in his cruiser.

Although an official count was not available at press time, Lake County law enforcement raised at least $2,200 and awareness for Special Olympics.

The relay begins May 1 and will have 16 starting points with hundreds carrying the “Flame of Hope” torch over 2,400 miles to the Montana State Summer Games opening ceremonies on May 15 in Billings.
