Editor,

With the 2010 General Election finished, I want to comment on what we accomplished.

Just over 10,000 votes were cast in the Lake County General Election. The Republican candidate won with about 3,900 votes. Running as a candidate without party affiliation, or “Independent,” I received just over 3,600 votes. In Lake County, it has been decades since any sheriff candidate won who was not a Republican, and it is true that many voters who are not informed simply cast their vote based on the party affiliation next to the candidate.

I know that the 3,600 votes cast for me were very informed votes. I believe the 3,600 voters that cast these votes were excited about the concept of a Constitutional sheriff, and about the principal of defending citizen’s rights at the local level by the sheriff’s oath of office. Of great interest is that this website attracted over 180,000 visits nationwide. This is a great accomplishment. Ron Paul educated voters on a national level through his campaign with his discussion of the Federal Reserve and other concepts. On a smaller level, this Lake County campaign carried a message that informed citizens how freedom can be secured at the local level when rights are protected by the chief law enforcement officer, the county sheriff.

Inch by inch, we are making progress. At times the progress seems painfully slow. Do not become discouraged. Do not give up the ground we have gained through education. Keep this discussion alive and work toward the next election. The freedoms so hard won have not been lost, but we must be dedicated to protect these concepts while they still exist, because to regain them, should ever they be lost, will demand a daunting price.

If not us, who? If not now, when? I am so honored by the men and women who have associated themselves with this campaign. I am humbled to stand shoulder to shoulder with you and count you as my friends. Our price has not become too great, “Tango Mike Mike.”
