POLSON — To celebrate the re-opening of Main Street and near completion of the streetscape project, the Polson Business Community is throwing a block party and inviting the whole community.

Community members are encouraged to come see what Main Street looks like following the many improvements made over the last 10 weeks while the street was closed for construction.

Festivities will commence Friday, Nov. 5, with a ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m. by Mayor Pat DeVries and other dignitaries.

Following the ribbon cutting, people can enjoy free food and sign up to win prizes. Cowboy beans and cornbread, hamburgers, hot dogs, chili, hot cider, cookies and brownies will be served on Main Street between Hwy. 93 and Second Avenue.

For entertainment, Monte, the University of Montana mascot, will be around, shaking hands and doing handstands.

Kids’ story hour, face painting, cider pressing and music will also be hosted by Mission Valley School of Dance in the first block of Main Street.

According to Polson Business Community promotional chair Jackie Cripe, more than $5,000 worth of prizes will be given away during the event. Gift certificates galore, a leather recliner from Harbor Light Furniture as well as an Italian dinner for eight from the Old World Deli are just some of the items to be won.

Grand prize is a trip for two to Disneyland.

Community members 18 years and older can register for prizes with participating merchants until 6:45 p.m. Winners will begin to be drawn at 7 p.m. Those registering must be present to win.

“It will be a solid stream of prizes from 7 to 8 p.m.,” Cripe said.

Friday’s block party is “all about bringing the community together,” she added.
