CHARLO — The Charlo Lady Vikings looked good in pink Oct. 20.

Wearing pink uniforms on “Think Pink” night, a night dedicated to raising money for free breast cancer screenings for low-income women, the Lady Vikings swept the Lincoln Lady Lynx and will enter the District 10-C Tournament with a 14-1 record and on a 16-game win streak.

“I think they are starting to gel a little bit and getting used to playing with each other,” Charlo coach Sheryl Kain said after watching her pink-clad team wrap up the regular season with a 25-12, 25-20, 25-9 nonconference victory.

The Lady Vikings were only tested once in the match after pulling out to an early lead, they watched their big lead dwindle when the Lady Lynx’s blocks kept falling between the front and back rows. After Kain called a late timeout, the Lady Vikings made an adjustment and closed out the game for a 25-20 victory.

Kain said earlier in the year her team wouldn’t have been able to make the adjustment, but down the homestretch of the season they’ve been communication with each other and have been able to recapture the momentum of matches.

“They’re talking to each other and trying to work it out on their own,” Kain said. When asked if they could’ve done this earlier in the season Kain said. “No. No they couldn’t and I think a lot of that was just because it was relatively new people and I think they finally figured each other out.”

During the Lady Vikings’ current win streak their attack has been a collective effort and that was the case again Wednesday night.

Seven Lady Vikings combined for 32 kills. Rachel Hoyt had a match-high nine. Deondra Brown and Jazmine Hernandez-Kelley each put down seven.

It was efficient passing that set up the Lady Vikings’ attack. They had 72 good passes and only five errors.

They were also good at the service line, finishing with 19 aces. Lady Viking junior Kinley Pope led the team with eight aces. She also had a team-high eight digs and put down three kills. Derika Stipe had six aces.

Dawn Blevins did a little bit of everything for Charlo. She led the team with 20 assists to go along with her three kills, three aces.

The Lady Vikings started the week by sweeping Alberton at home Monday.

Hoyt led the Lady Vikings with eight kills in the 25-14, 25-12, 25-17 nonconference victory. Pope had 13 of their 43 digs. Pope and Brown led the team with four aces apiece. Blevins had 20 of their 22 assists.

The Lady Vikings will host the district tournament Oct. 29-30.
