Last week, the Lake County Job Service Employer Committee recognized this year’s recipient of the Ken Rohrenbach Scholarship and two businesses as Lake County’s “Employers of Choice.”

Emyli Gillingham was selected by the Lake County Job Service Employers Committee to receive the $1,000 Ken Rohrenbach Scholarship for 2013. Gillingham will graduate from St. Ignatius High School this year and plans to continue her education at Hawaii Pacific University in the pre-medical study program. Once she finishes her studies, she plans to join Doctors Without Borders to travel the world helping people. To qualify for this scholarship, Gillingham submitted an essay describing some of her life experiences and how they have impacted the last few years and her plans for the future. The JSEC committee feels that Gillingham is the perfect recipient for this year’s scholarship, as she exemplifies the desired qualifications including determination, community involvement, and overcoming adversity. JSEC awarded two businesses with the “Employer of Choice” award: St. Luke Community Healthcare and Country Foods. JSEC’s new Employer of Choice program recognizes local businesses that demonstrate a high level of commitment to their employees and the community.

JSEC chose St. Luke Community Healthcare as an employer of choice because of its excellent benefits and a high level of community involvement. St. Luke’s offers a variety of training and education opportunities to their employees. They collaborate with Salish Kootenai College to support the nursing program and groom them for employment. They stay very active in the community with sponsorship of local events, wellness booths and first aid stations.  St. Luke’s also participates in local boards and committees, such as JSEC and the Polson and Ronan Chambers of Commerce.

Country Foods was also recognized as an employer of choice because “they have a strong sense of family that you pick up on as soon as you walk through the doors. Everyone works hard and supports each other.” Country Foods is strongly dedicated to their employees and the community. They offer innovative benefits to their employees and are active in local and regional events, such as Live Locally and Komen Race for the Cure, as well as local committees such as JSEC and Polson Chamber of Commerce.
