PABLO — Mission Valley Power has proposed a rate increase to go into effect Oct. 1. Other proposed increases are spaced every two years until Oct. 1, 2019.

Projected rate increases from Bonneville Power Administration and PPL Montana are prompting the raise. The extra charges will cover fixed costs, such as meters, posts, wire and any repairs, according to Ralph Goode, MVP General Manager.

According to MVP’s press release, the proposed rate change includes a plan to increase the basic monthly charge for residential and general services without demand until 2019. Also, a new basic charge for prepay meters is proposed, as well as a kilowatt hour increase for each rate classification.

For this year’s change, basic monthly charges will increase by $1, from $10 per month to $11 per month. The energy charge for residential customers will go up from $0.0599 to $0.0620.

With the new rates, a residential customer who uses 1,000 kilowatt hours will pay $62 plus the $11 basic charge, for a $3.10-per-month increase.

A schedule with information on proposed changes to all rate classes is available at the MVP office in Pablo.

On Oct. 1, 2015, the basic charge will go up $1 to $12 monthly; on Oct. 1, 2017, up $1 to $13 per month; and Oct. 1, 2017, up $2 to $15.

Public meetings for comments on rate increase will be held:

• Monday, May 20 at the Mission Valley Power conference room from 10 a.m. to noon; and

• Wednesday, May 22, at the Mission Valley Power conference room from 6 to 8 p.m.

Oral comments may be made at any of the above locations and should be limited to three minutes. Written comments may be sent to Consumer Council Chair Vickie Lester, P.O. Box 97, Pablo, Mont., 59855. Written comments should be received no later than June 7.
