Editor,

Why would we, “The American People,” want Republicans back in charge? If the last decade hasn’t taught us anything, just look at the last two years.

Republicans – GOP – Grand Obstructionist Party - have no solutions. They have consistently voted against good bills because they would rather see a Democratic president fail than help Americans. “No” to taxing corporations that take jobs overseas. “No” to rewarding those who create jobs here. “No” to repealing tax breaks for the wealthiest 2 percent and “no” extending unemployment benefits to the rest of us. “No” to “big government,” although even our Montana Republican politicians take subsidies from “big government,” bring home the pork, and accept Medicare and Social Security benefits. “No” to health care reform to provide access to millions of Americans. Obviously, no universal, single payer or public option health care because that might bite into the profits of their political contributors – insurance companies and pharmaceuticals. Their health care solution is to abolish Medicare (abandoning seniors) and to privatize Social Security, so it will be at the mercy of erratic stock markets.

Yet, in spite of the Republicans, much has been accomplished by this Democratic administration. Withdrawl from Iraq, the Lilly Leadbetter Fair Pay Act, the Employee Free Choice Act. Extended SCHIP, the end to torture, improved VA care, increased Pell Grants, tax credits for homebuyers, and a stimulus package that kept the economy from totally crashing. Wall Street and the credit card industry reined in. Our image abroad greatly improved. At least three terrorist attacks prevented. Unemployment benefits extended and investment in infrastructure which is creating jobs. Incentives so banks will start lending again. Educational improvements so our children will be globally competitive. And, finally, healthcare access for millions of Americans.

The hypocrisy of the party of “No” is beyond all understanding. Put them back in charge? “The American People” are brighter than that. Once over a cliff is enough.
