LINCOLN — A slow start and turnovers cost the Arlee Warriors the third playoff seed from the Western C conference.

In a 44-34 loss to the Lynx in Lincoln Friday, the Warriors spotted the Lynx 20 points in the first quarter and six fumbles spoiled any chance of a comeback.

“They put up three touchdowns pretty quick and that’s pretty tough to recover from,” Arlee coach Scott Palmer said. “Plus we put the ball on the ground nine times, it’s hard to keep your momentum when you do that.”

Palmer said they may have underestimated the Lynx, who wrapped up the third seed for the playoffs with the 10-point win. Just like in a game, where players have to have short memories and forget about the last play, Palmer wants his team to put the loss behind them.

“Hopefully, we can let it go and move on. We’ll make sure to practice on our mistakes, but the emphasis will be on Seeley,” Palmer said.

The Warriors wrap up the regular season hosting Seeley-Swan Friday.

After the Lynx jumped out to a 20-0 lead, Zach Tameler got the Warriors on the board with a 43-yard run to end the first quarter. Tameler also ended the scoring in the game with an 18-yard run in the fourth quarter.

A 21-yard TD run by Dakota Desjarlais made it 20-12 in the second quarter, but the Lynx added two touchdowns, before Dejarlais hooked up with Cody Sheridan for a 40-yard strike to make it 36-20 at the break. The two would also connect for a 6-yard score to open the second half. Later in the quarter an Arlee safety would make it a one-touchdown game, but that’s as close as they would get.

Desjarlais was playing for senior leader Dylan Moran.

“Dakota stepped right into the quarterback position. He made good reads and threw the ball well. It’s nice to have somebody like Dakota, who might not have the experience like Dylan, but is able to come in and make plays,” Palmer said.
