Supporting constitutional rights is important

Editor,

I have a Christian upbringing and served in Viet Nam so I have tremendous respect for two elements at conflict-the right to protest for peace at a public military funeral. While, like the building of a Mosque near ground zero, I disagree with the choice to exercise what I believe are constitutional rights, I support their right to do so.

Supporting all our rights, not just some, is hard, especially when they conflict with what one wants. I notice many seeking office, many who write letters imploring others to join their way of thinking, and many who 'want to take our country back' often pick and choose what to support.  Everyone seems to agree both sides can be armed, for example.

So I ask you to respond, not to the parts of this letter you may disagree with, but to its issue. I could learn from hearing how the precepts you believe in would apply to this issue. The issue is not the activity nor the religious beliefs of the group, but which side is right and why. Do we allow the peaceful protest of a group at a public (not private) military funeral for our war heroes or do we put even more limits on the Constitution and justify it as a patriotic necessity.?

For many oracles, it is easier to remain in the shadows, attacking or masking what is real. Directness and exposure are often not comfortable states of being for those who use platitudes as a platform.
