POLSON — Suzanne Gyzeny and Tomi Todaro spoke to the Polson School Board of Trustees at the monthly meeting Oct. 11.

Gyzeny and Todaro are the mothers of two seventh-grade girls who were involved in a Sept. 16 playground incident where another student allegedly threatened them with a gun. The women are concerned because the perpetrator of the incident was not expelled from school.

After the board went into executive session and reconvened, Trustee Brian Havlovick said Gyzeny and Todaro deserve a different explanation or at least a response to their question. The two women will be asked to attend a special board meeting Oct. 14.

Also, three residents of the Rolfson Addition approached the trustees about a mental health facility to be built across the street from PMS and said parents of all the children should be notified about the proposed building.

Tyler Krell, PHS student representative on the school board, reported that Mr. Whitesell “was helping the BOG out with a bigger TV” for the student lounge area near the lunchroom.

Krell brought up "I Love to Read" week. At his former school, high school students read to grade school students. He would like to start the tradition in Polson.

Among other issues, Krell said the PHS Board of Governors talked about a canned food drive and challenging Ronan High School to meet or beat PHS’s canned food poundage.

In other business, the board passed motions to:

• change the time of monthly board meetings at 5:30 p.m.

• purchase a new International bus without a trade-in

• approve a memorandum of understanding with the Polson Education Association to hire another middle school basketball coach

• allow two students to graduate early

• set up a surplus sale

• approve personnel reports for both high school and elementary districts

• claims for September

The next regularly scheduled board meeting will be Nov. 8 at 5:30 p.m. in the district office conference room.
