News from St. Ignatius Police Department

The town of St. Ignatius has had an unending problem of animal cruelty within its boundaries; poor responsibility of animal owners is a deep problem that affects innocent animals and yields negative outcomes, Animal Control Officer Susan Dodson explained.

On May 4 the St. Ignatius Police Department received financial assistance from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. These funds are designated in a stipend to attend National Animal Control Association Training Levels 1 and 2.

The stipend is to establish a professional development and training program for Dodson, the town’s animal control officer. ASPCA promotes and supports education and professional development. Financing will enhance animal control services for the town of St. Ignatius.

The St. Ignatius Police Department offers a wide variety of services and is empowered by the state to enforce the law, protect property and limit civil disorder. The animal control officer is an important arm of the department. Dodson is charged with responding to calls for service from the general public for the prevention of cruelty to animals. Her mission is to protect the welfare of animals through the most humane treatment.
