DIXON — Did anyone notice how “long” May seemed to be this year? I am so looking forward to uninterrupted dry time to get my plants going in the summer sun. Thank goodness for faithful perennials, which come up, bloom and multiply without care. My favorites of the moment are my 12 year-old bleeding heart, three gorgeous peonies, and of course the ever-ubiquitous Shasta daisies, which spread all over the yard. These are special if you put them in different food colorings and watch how they change colors, a possible science lesson to try with your youngsters or by with yourself.

We were treated to the happy chatter of Harvey and Marge Gould’s sweet great-granddaughter, Ray Lynne, her mother Katie and her mother (Gould’s daughter) Brenda, when they all came to lunch last week. We keep a high chair just for these events. Other guests from Post Creek were Luke and Tena Savage, who remembered as they passed through town, that we served lunch on Thursdays. They were happy to find such a good feed, plus Luke won the door prize. All ages are welcome to join us for meals at 5:30 p.m. each Monday and at noon on Thursdays.

Meals for the next weeks will be:

•  Thursday, June 6: ham loaf

•  Monday, June 10:  Salisbury steak

•  Thursday, June 13:  brunch-quiche, eggs Benedict, (personal favorite)

•  Monday, June 17: beef stew

Our cook, Diane, even makes jell-o special. Come join us this summer and bring your company. Meals are still just $4 (50 cents
